Mopar 68624105AB is the current factory steering damper for the JL and Gladiator. It has replaced a long list of earlier numbers, so if your JL has a 68251580-series damper, this is the part that replaces it. It's a cheap part and a common first fix for JL shimmy complaints, though it's rarely the root cause of a real wobble.
Fitment
2018-and-later Wrangler JL and 2020-and-later Gladiator JT, per Quadratec's Mopar listing (M186/M210 front axles). Always confirm the number on your old part or run your VIN at a Mopar parts counter before you order.
Common failure symptoms
- Damper body wet with fluid or visibly leaking
- Steering wheel shimmy over bumps or at highway speed
- Damper offers little resistance when stroked by hand
- Damage from rocks on lifted rigs

Rebuild, repair or replace?
Replace, don't rebuild. Mopar's instructions call for priming a new damper by hand with five full compression-and-extension strokes before you install it. Before calling the damper the fix, check the bigger causes in order: tire balance and condition, the front track bar, tie rod ends, and ball joints. A new damper on top of a worn front end only buys time. On lifted JLs with bigger tires, an aftermarket single or dual stabilizer may be the better choice. Our stabilizer guide covers what fits.
