Mopar 5149168AJ (also written 05149168AJ) is the current ignition coil for the JK's 3.6. Each cylinder has its own coil-on-plug unit, so a single bad coil produces a misfire on one cylinder. That makes it easy to pin down with a swap test before you buy anything.
Fitment
2012–2018 Wrangler JK with the 3.6 Pentastar. One coil per cylinder (six total). Always confirm the number on your old part or run your VIN at a Mopar parts counter before you order.
Common failure symptoms
- Misfire code on one cylinder (P0301–P0306)
- Rough idle or shake under load
- Flashing check engine light under acceleration (stop and diagnose)
- Misfire that follows the coil when swapped to another cylinder

Rebuild, repair or replace?
Coils are replaced, not rebuilt. Diagnose with a swap: move the suspect coil to another cylinder, clear codes, and drive. If the misfire moves with it, the coil is bad. If it stays, look at the plug or injector. Rear coils on the driver bank sit under the upper intake, the same as the plugs, so if you're doing plugs (Mopar SP149125AF / Champion 9407) at the interval, inspect the coil boots while you're there. You don't have to replace all six unless several are failing.
Mopar has revised this coil several times: 5149168AH and 5149168AI are both superseded by AJ. If you are buying aftermarket, confirm the listing names 5149168AJ or the 2012–2018 3.6 JK as its fitment. When you pull a coil, look at the boot for oil. Oil in the plug well points to a valve cover gasket or tube seal leak that will keep killing boots until it's fixed.
